In this article, I will present a step-by-step procedure on how to create and start using one, in order to inspire you to develop more applications according to your needs.
Currently, there are a large number of apps, both free and paid, that offer this kind of service. Most of them are essentially based on ChatGPT, which provides the main functionality.
The tool I will present is ora.ai, which allows easy creation of chat bots for free.
If you prefer to use a different tool, that is fine, as the logic behind the process will be the same, just with a different interface.
For the sake of best understanding, I recommend using this tool in order to be able to follow me step-by-step.
☑️ First steps in creating AI Chatbot
The first step is to create an account. Sign up using your email.
Once you have signed up, you will arrive at your home page, where you can see a couple of different options.
Click on the "Create New Chatbot" button.
⚙️ AI Chatbot training
At this point, you will see various fields that require your input.
Name:
Name the bot in a way that clearly reflects its purpose. For example: Lesson Planning, Email Generator, Project Ideas, Curriculum outline, etc.
Custom Instructions (Prompt):
This field holds immense significance as it serves as the hub for providing detailed instructions on how the chatbot should respond to your future requests and define its role. It is crucial to be as specific as possible in this section. Keep in mind that chatbots are akin to young children, constantly learning and evolving through conversations. By providing comprehensive guidelines, you can lay a strong foundation for their growth. Dedicate ample time to contemplate all aspects of the use case and consider the desired outputs. Reflect on factors such as reasoning ability, text formatting, language style, and so on to enhance the chatbot's performance.
Default first message:
This will be the initial message displayed when you begin interacting with your bot.
Description:
This field is important for providing a quick reminder of the purpose of the chatbot, in case the title is not sufficient. Additionally, if you want to share your chatbot with colleagues, this short description will help them understand its purpose.
Category:
This is an optional setting used to classify your chatbot.
Access control:
This setting will remain public since the other two options are premium features.
Once you have filled out all the required fields, click the "Create Bot" button at the bottom. However, the tuning process does not end here.
▶️ Access your AI chatbots
The image below shows the location where you can view all the chatbots you have created. I have one called 'Student Testimonial Creator'.
🖼️ Main AI chatbot interface
In the next image, you can see the interface of the newly created chatbot.
A: Welcome message
B: Link to this chatbot (if you want to share)
C: Chatbot settings, where you can access all the settings we went through earlier or clear (reset) the chat window
D: Show info (bot description message)
E: Enter a message to generate the desired text while keeping the information from the instruction prompt in mind
NOTE:
Since this app is free, it is possible to encounter occasional glitches. You can resolve them by simply refreshing the page. Additionally, ensure that you are signed in, as not being signed in can be one of the reasons for the error to occur.
Conclusion
By now, you should have a clear understanding of the procedure to create a custom chatbot.
In my work, I have experimented with various use cases and developed some training prompts along the way. These prompts can help you kick-start your journey with chatbots.
If you would like to access prompts for these five chatbots, I kindly ask you to subscribe. Once you do that, I will directly send a PDF with instructions to your inbox together with all other resource I've shared with the community sofar.
